Social Policy

Job Summary

The Associate Professor of Economics with a specialization in Social Policy at PIDE will provide academic leadership in social protection, public welfare, and policy evaluation. The role includes teaching, conducting high-impact research, policy advisory, and collaboration with stakeholders to enhance evidence-based policymaking and social development in Pakistan.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Curriculum Development
  • Develop and teach courses in Social Policy, Public Welfare Economics, and Social Protection Systems at graduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Incorporate case studies, social policy frameworks, and applied methodologies into the curriculum.
  • Supervise graduate and postgraduate students conducting research in poverty alleviation, social protection, and welfare policies.
Policy Advisory
  • Advise government ministries, social policy agencies, and international organizations on welfare policy design, labor market interventions, and social safety net programs.
  • Develop policy frameworks for equitable economic growth and social justice.
  • Engage in policy dialogues and strategic planning initiatives to improve social protection systems and inclusive economic policies.
Academic Leadership
  • Mentor and supervise graduate and postgraduate students in social policy research.
  • Participate in academic committees and contribute to institutional development at PIDE.
  • Provide thought leadership in shaping public policy research and welfare system reforms.
Research and Publications
  • Conduct research on poverty, inequality, labor markets, social safety nets, and policy impact evaluations.
  • Publish research findings in HEC-recognized, high-impact journals and present at national and international conferences.
  • Secure research grants and funding to support studies in social policy and economic inclusion.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Collaborate with NGOs, public sector organizations, and research institutions to improve social policy implementation.
  • Conduct field studies and impact assessments of social programs, conditional cash transfers, and public assistance schemes.
  • Strengthen partnerships with international institutions, labor market economists, and policymakers to promote social well-being and economic inclusion.
Institutional Contribution
  • Contribute to PIDE’s vision and mission through teaching, research, and policy engagement.
  • Participate in conferences, seminars, and workshops to enhance PIDE’s academic and research impact.
  • Strengthen PIDE’s role in influencing public policy through research on social welfare, poverty reduction, and labor market policies.

Qualifications and Experience

  • PhD in Economics, Finance, or a closely related field with specialization in International Economics, International Finance, or macroeconomics from a recognized/accredited and reputable institution.
  • At least 10 years of total relevant experience, with at least 4 years of post-PhD experience
  • In addition10 research publications (with 4 publications in the past 5 years) in HEC recognized refereed high-impact journals.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Proven experience in securing research grants and leading academic projects.
  • Proficiency in quantitative and econometric tools such as STATA, MATLAB, R, Python, Bloomberg, or EViews.
Age: Maximum 55 Years
Compliance with HEC Standards
  • Ensure all academic and research activities comply with HEC guidelines and standards.
  • Stay updated on HEC policies and contribute to institutional compliance efforts.
