Job Title: Chief of Research / Senior Research Fellow
Trade and Industrial Policy

Job Summary

The Chief of Research at PIDE will provide intellectual leadership and strategic direction to a team of researchers, driving high-impact research in key areas of Trade and Industrial Policy. The incumbent will oversee research design, ensure policy relevance, and foster collaborations with national and international stakeholders to enhance PIDE’s role as a leading research institution.

Key Responsibilities

Research
  • Oversee and coordinate research activities in a PIDE research center, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and national policy priorities.
  • Setting research agendas and fostering collaboration within the center.
  • Ensure high standards of research quality, publication output, and policy engagement.
  • Conduct high quality research in areas of:

Trade and Industrial Policy including (I) Trade Liberalization, Competitiveness, and Export Diversification, (ii) Industrial Policy and Structural Transformation, (iii) Trade and Digital Economy: E-Commerce, Fintech, and Global Trade Trends, (iv) Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Technology Transfer, (v)Trade, Industrial Policy, and Climate Resilience.

  • Supervise and mentor researchers, supporting their professional growth and research development.
Collaboration and Networking
  • Represent PIDE in national and international forums, advocating for evidence-based policymaking, and enhancing visibility of PIDE.
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships with government agencies, international organizations, and private sector stakeholders to expand research opportunities, attract funding, and maximize policy impact.
Policy Advocacy
  • Translate research findings into actionable policy recommendations, fostering engagement with policymakers and industry leaders.
  • Provide expert advice to government ministries, international organizations, and private sector stakeholders on international economic and financial policies.
  • Contribute to policy briefs, reports, and white papers on global economic issues.
  • Engage in policy discussions to support evidence-based decision-making at the national and international levels.
Institutional Contribution
  • Contribute to PIDE’s vision and mission through teaching, research, policy engagement.
  • Participate in conferences, seminars, and workshops to enhance PIDE’s reputation.
  • Strengthen PIDE’s role in influencing public policy.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: PhD in Economics (or related field) with specialization in Trade and Industrial Policy.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of post-qualification relevant, productive experience in BPS-19 grade or equivalent; minimum research experience of 10 years (including up to 4 years in a PhD program)
  • Research Excellence: Published 5 regular articles in internationally reputed journals, a book of high professional merit will also be considered.
  • Leadership & Management: Experience in leading research teams, managing research projects, and securing competitive research funding.
  • Policy Engagement: Strong networks with policymakers, academia, and international research institutions.
  • Analytical & Communication Skills: Ability to translate complex research into actionable policy insights and effectively communicate findings to diverse audiences.
