Job Title: Literary Editor & Chief of Publications

Job Summary

The Literary Editor and Chief of Publications is responsible for overseeing all academic, research, and literary publications of the PIDE. This role involves managing editorial processes, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring timely publication of journals, magazines, newsletters, and other academic materials. The individual will work closely with faculty, researchers, students, and external contributors to enhance the university’s scholarly and literary reputation.

Key Responsibilities

Editorial Oversight & Quality Control
  • Supervise the editorial process for academic journals, university magazines, newsletters, and research publications.
  • Ensure all publications adhere to high editorial and academic standards, including language clarity, factual accuracy, and ethical compliance.
  • Review, edit, and approve manuscripts for publication.
Literary & Creative Publications
  • Manage university magazines, literary journals, and creative writing platforms.
  • Encourage and curate student and faculty contributions in poetry, fiction, essays, and other literary forms.
  • Organize literary events, writing competitions, and author talks.
Digital Publishing & Open Access Initiatives
  • Implement digital publishing strategies, including online journals and open-access repositories.
  • Oversee the integration of digital tools for manuscript submission, peer review, and content distribution.
  • Ensure compliance with copyright laws and open-access policies.
Budgeting & Resource Management
  • Prepare and manage the budget for university publications.
  • Identify funding sources, sponsorships, and grants for academic and literary publishing projects.
  • Oversee procurement of publishing tools, software, and printing services.
Research & Academic Publishing
  • Oversee the publication of peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, and academic reports.
  • Establish editorial guidelines and submission policies for research publications.
  • Work with faculty and researchers to refine and publish their scholarly work.
Content Development & Communications
  • Ensure that all university publications align with institutional goals and branding.
  • Write and edit press releases, speeches, and official communications as required.
  • Develop and maintain an editorial calendar for university publications.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Coordinate with faculty, students, and external writers for content contributions.
  • Work with designers, printers, and digital publishers to ensure high-quality production.
  • Establish partnerships with academic institutions, publishers, and literary organizations.
Policy Development & Compliance
  • Establish and enforce editorial and publishing policies, including ethical guidelines for authorship and plagiarism prevention.
  • Ensure adherence to university and regulatory policies on academic publishing.
  • Monitor compliance with international indexing and citation standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree with 2nd Division / B-Grade in English, Journalism, Publishing, Communications, or a relevant field.
  • Ph.D. in a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum 17 years of experience in editorial management, academic publishing, or literary journalism.
  • Experience in university publishing, scholarly communication, or academic journals is preferred.
  • Strong background in editing, proofreading, and manuscript evaluation.
Age: Maximum 55 Years
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in publishing software (Adobe InDesign, LaTeX, Microsoft Office, and digital publishing platforms).
  • Knowledge of peer-review processes, indexing systems (Scopus, Web of Science), and academic writing standards.
  • Familiarity with open-access publishing, copyright laws, and intellectual property rights.
Soft Skills
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and creativity in content curation.
