Job Title: Manager Intellectual Property/ Legal Services

Job Summary

The Manager of Intellectual Property / Legal Services will be responsible to play a crucial role in promoting and protecting the PIDE's intellectual property (IP) assets and ensuring compliance with legal requirements. This position is responsible for overseeing the PIDE's IP portfolio, providing legal counsel to faculty and staff, and fostering a culture of innovation and research commercialization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the identification, disclosure, protection, and commercialization of university-owned intellectual property, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets.
  • Oversee the preparation and filing of patent applications, copyright registrations, and trademark applications
  • Maintain accurate records of IP portfolio and manage deadlines related to filings and renewals.
  • Provide legal advice to faculty, researchers, and university departments on matters related to intellectual property law, research agreements, licensing, and commercialization efforts.
  • Assist in the negotiation and drafting of contracts, including licensing agreements, material transfer agreements, research collaboration agreements, and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Address legal risks associated with IP and associated research activities, offering guidance on compliance with federal, state, and university policies.
  • Develop and implement university policies related to IP management, research compliance, and commercialization.
  • Organize and lead training sessions and workshops for faculty, staff, and students on IP rights, responsibilities, and best practices in research and innovation.
  • Serve as a resource for educating the university community about the importance of IP and innovation.
  • Collaborate with university departments, such as Research and Innovation, Technology Transfer Office, and compliance teams to promote IP awareness and support commercialization initiatives.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including industry partners, legal firms, and government agencies, to foster relationships that enhance the university’s IP strategy.
  • Represent the university at conferences, seminars, and workshops related to IP law and technology transfer.
  • Review, analyze, and identify new inventions, patents, and disclosures submitted by researchers and faculty.

Qualification & Experience

  • Law graduate (LLB),or Master’s degree with 2nd Division / B-Grade in a relevant field (e.g., business administration, intellectual property, from HEC recognized university.
  • A minimum of 5 years of legal experience with a focus on intellectual property law, technology transfer, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing an intellectual property portfolio, including patent and trademark processes.
  • Previous experience in an academic, research, or corporate legal environment is highly desirable.
Age: Maximum 45 years

  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state intellectual property laws and regulations, including U.S. patent, copyright, and trademark law.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess legal risks and provide practical solutions.
  • Excellent negotiation, drafting, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, researchers, and external partners.
