Job Title: Professor
Economics with Specialization in Food Security and Climate Change
Job Summary
The Professor of Economics with a specialization in Food Security and Climate Change at PIDE will be responsible for conducting high-impact research, teaching courses in environmental and agricultural economics, and engaging with policymakers, international organizations, and industry stakeholders to address the challenges of global food security and climate change. He/she will focus on agricultural sustainability, climate-smart policies, economic resilience, and global food systems, integrating economic theories with real-world applications. The ideal candidate will have expertise in climate adaptation policies, agricultural trade and policy reforms, economic modeling of food systems, and environmental risk assessment. The role involves securing research grants, publishing in top-tier journals, supervising student research, and contributing to institutional and national-level policy discussions.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Curriculum Development
- Develop and teach graduate, and doctoral-level courses in:
- Food Security Economics
- Climate Change and Economic Resilience
- Agricultural Economics and Policy
- Environmental and Natural Resource Economics
- Sustainable Development and Rural Livelihoods
- Global Food Trade and Markets
- Incorporate data-driven research methodologies into the curriculum, including GIS mapping, econometric analysis, and climate impact simulations.
- Supervise undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. students in food security and climate change research projects.
- Develop multidisciplinary programs and training workshops in agricultural sustainability and environmental policy.
Policy Advisory & Industry Engagement
- Advise governments, NGOs, and international organizations on climate-resilient food policies and economic strategies for sustainable agriculture.
- Work with agribusinesses, farming cooperatives, and financial institutions to develop market-based solutions for climate adaptation.
- Provide expertise in agricultural subsidies, food price volatility, rural development policies, and sustainable land management.
- Engage in policy modeling, impact assessment, and scenario planning to evaluate food security policies.
Research and Publications
- Conduct research on climate-smart agricultural policies, food supply chains, carbon pricing, and economic resilience in farming communities.
- Publish in high-impact peer-reviewed journals (e.g., Food Policy, Agricultural Economics, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management).
- Lead interdisciplinary research collaborations with agricultural scientists, environmentalists, and policy analysts.
- Secure external research grants from funding bodies such as FAO, UNDP, World Bank, CGIAR, and national research organizations.
- Present research findings at global climate summits, economic forums, and policy roundtables.
Academic Leadership & Institutional Development
- Serve on PIDE academic committees, and strategic academic planning teams.
- Develop and lead policy preparation on climate economics, food security research, and sustainable agriculture within the PIDE.
- Organize conferences, policy dialogues, and international workshops on food security and climate economics.
- Foster partnerships with global institutions, government agencies, and private sector players to enhance research and academic collaborations.
- Mentor junior faculty and contribute to faculty development programs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Ph.D. in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Environmental Economics, or a related field.
- Minimum 11 years post-PhD/relevant terminal qualification experience or at least 7 years post-PhD experience with 12 years of total professional experience, including teaching/research at a recognized university, research institute, or international organization.
- At least 15 research publications (with 5 publications in the past 5 years) in HEC-recognized refereed high-impact journals.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and student mentoring at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Experience in policy consulting, government advisory roles, or policy implementation.
- Strong background in quantitative and qualitative policy analysis methods.
Age: Maximum 55 Years
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior tenured faculty experience at a leading university.
- Experience in policy consulting, international development projects, or climate finance initiatives.
- Strong professional network with government agencies, UN bodies, and international research organizations.
- Proficiency in economic modeling tools (e.g., STATA, R, MATLAB, GIS mapping, CGE models).
- Experience in public-private partnerships for sustainable agricultural practices.
