International Economics and Finance

Job Summary

The Professor of International Economics and Finance at PIDE will be responsible for conducting high-quality research, delivering, engaging and rigorous instruction, and contributing to the academic and professional development of students in the field of international economics, financial markets, global economic policies, and capital flows. The role involves supervising research projects, publishing in high-impact journals, securing research funding and engaging with industry, policymakers, and academic communities to bridge the gaps between theory and practice.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Curriculum Development
  • Design, develop, and deliver courses in International Economics, International Finance, Global Trade, Macroeconomic policy, financial markets, and emerging economics at graduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Use innovative teaching methods, including case studies, simulations, and data-driven analysis to enhance student learning
  • Develop and revise course materials to align with industry trends, regulatory policies, and technology advancement in finance and economics
  • Supervise and mentor graduate and postgraduate students in their research projects, dissertations, and thesis work.
  • Incorporate quantitative modeling, econometrics, and financial analysis software (Stata, MATLAB, Bloomberg, Python, R, etc.) into the curriculum.
Industry and Policy Engagement
  • Collaborate with public organizations, financial institutions, multinational corporations, and international economic organizations to provide expertise on financial regulations, trade agreements, and monetary policy.
  • Act as an advisor or consultant on international financial policies, emerging markets, risk assessment, and economic development strategies.
  • Contribute to policy briefs, reports, and white papers on global economic issues.
  • Engage in policy discussions to support evidence-based decision-making at the national
  • Develop executive training programs and workshops for industry professionals in international finance, risk management, and global investment strategies.
Compliance with HEC Standards
  • Ensure all academic and research activities comply with HEC guidelines and standards.
  • Stay updated on HEC policies and contribute to institutional compliance efforts.
Research and Publications
  • Conduct original high-impact research in areas such as global financial system and stability, regional and international trade dynamics, exchange rates mechanisms, economic policies affecting multinational corporations, and capital flows concerning Pakistan’s economy.
  • Publish findings in top-tier peer-reviewed journals as per HEC policy 
  • Present research at national and international conferences, forums, and policy roundtables.
  • Seek and Secure external research grants from institutions such as the World Bank, IMF, OECD, and other national and international organizations.
  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration within the PIDE and with global research institutions and think tanks.
Academic Leadership & Service
  • Serve on PIDE committees, and advisory boards  to contribute to strategic academic planning.
  • Take leadership roles in academic program development, faculty mentoring, and curriculum enhancements.
  • Organize conferences, guest lectures, and networking events to engage with professionals, alumni, and industry leaders.
  •  Foster a diverse, inclusive, and intellectually stimulating learning environment

Eligibility Criteria

  • PhD in Economics, Finance, or a closely related field with specialization in International Economics, International Finance, or macroeconomics from a recognized/accredited and reputable institution.
  • Minimum 11 years post-PhD/relevant terminal qualification experience or at least 7 years post-PhD experience with 12 years of total professional experience, including teaching/research at a recognized university, research institute, or international organization.
  • At least 15 research publications (with 5 publications in the past 5 years) in HEC-recognized refereed high-impact journals.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels Proven experience in securing research grants and leading academic projects.
  • Proficiency in quantitative and econometric tools such as STATA, MATLAB, R, Python, Bloomberg, or EViews.
Age: Maximum 55 Years
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior tenured faculty experience at a reputable institution.
  • Experience in policy consulting, advisory roles, or industry engagement with international financial institutions, central banks, or trade organizations.
  • A global network within the academic, finance, and policy community.
  • Fluency in multiple languages is a plus, particularly if working in diverse economic research areas.
