Job Title: Professor
Political Economy
Job Summary
Political Economy
The Professor of Political Economy is responsible for conducting high-impact research, teaching courses on the intersection of politics and economics, and engaging with policymakers, international organizations, and industry stakeholders. Will focus on economic policy, globalization, governance, trade relations, financial systems, development studies, and the impact of political institutions on economic growth. The ideal candidate will have expertise in economic history, comparative political economy, public finance, monetary policy, and international trade. The role involves publishing in top-tier journals, securing research grants, advising government agencies, and mentoring students in the field of political economy.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Curriculum Development
- Develop and teach graduate, and doctoral-level courses in:
- Comparative Political Economy
- Economic Policy and Governance
- International Trade and Globalization
- Public Finance and Monetary Policy
- Economic Development and Institutional Change
- Global Financial Systems and Political Risk
- Integrate quantitative and qualitative political economy analysis into the curriculum.
- Supervise undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. students in political economy research projects.
- Develop case studies, simulations, and policy debates to enhance student engagement.
Policy Advisory & Industry Engagement
- Advise governments, central banks, and international organizations on economic governance, regulatory policy, and political risk assessment.
- Provide expertise in economic diplomacy, trade negotiations, and financial regulation.
- Engage with global financial institutions, think tanks, and economic policy institutes.
- Conduct policy impact assessments and economic modeling to evaluate governance structures.
Research and Publications
- Conduct research on public policy, economic institutions, political risk, and international financial markets.
- Publish in top-tier peer-reviewed journals (e.g., World Politics, Review of International Political Economy, Journal of Economic Perspectives or HEC approved journals).
- Lead interdisciplinary research collaborations with economists, political scientists, and international relations experts.
- Secure external research grants from institutions such as the World Bank, IMF, UNDP, and national research councils.
- Present research at global economic forums, policy roundtables, and academic conferences.
Academic Leadership & Institutional Development
- Serve on PIDE academic committees, and strategic planning teams.
- Develop and lead centers for political economy research and economic governance.
- Organize conferences, public policy dialogues, and workshops on global economic challenges.
- Foster partnerships with universities, think tanks, and international development agencies.
- Mentor junior faculty and contribute to faculty development initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Ph.D. in Political Economy, Economics, Political Science, or a related field.
- Minimum 11 years post-PhD/relevant terminal qualification experience or at least 7 years post-PhD experience with 12 years of total professional experience, including teaching/research at a recognized university, research institute, or international organization.
- At least 15 research publications (with 5 publications in the past 5 years) in HEC-recognized refereed high-impact journals.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and student mentoring at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Experience in policy consulting, government advisory roles, or policy implementation.
- Strong background in quantitative and qualitative policy analysis methods.
Age: Maximum 55 Years
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior tenured faculty experience at a leading university.
- Experience in policy consulting, government advisory roles, or economic governance projects.
- Strong professional network with government agencies, UN bodies, and research organizations.
- Proficiency in economic modeling tools (e.g., STATA, R, MATLAB, CGE models).
- Experience in political risk analysis, international trade policy, and development finance.
