Job Summary

The Professor of Economics or Public Policy with a specialization in Urban and Infrastructure Policy at PIDE is responsible for conducting high-impact research, teaching courses related to urban development and infrastructure planning, and engaging with policymakers, city planners, and international organizations to shape policies on sustainable urbanization, smart cities, transportation, housing, and infrastructure finance. The ideal candidate will have expertise in urban economic development, municipal governance, public-private partnerships (PPPs), smart city innovations, and sustainable infrastructure investments. The role involves publishing in top-tier journals, securing research grants, advising government agencies, and mentoring students in urban and infrastructure policy studies.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Curriculum Development
  • Develop and teach, graduate, and doctoral-level courses in:
  1. Urban Economics and Development Policy
  2. Infrastructure Planning and Finance
  3.  Smart Cities and Digital Governance
  4.  Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in Infrastructure
  5.  Sustainable Urbanization and Climate-Resilient Cities
  6.  Transportation Economics and Mobility Planning
  • Integrate urban data analytics, econometric modeling, and policy simulations into the curriculum.
  • Supervise undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. students in urban and infrastructure policy research.
  • Develop case studies, scenario planning exercises, and real-world policy simulations.

 

Policy Advisory & Industry Engagement
  • Advise local, national, and international government agencies on urban planning, smart city governance, infrastructure investment, and sustainable transportation systems.
  • Work with real estate developers, municipal authorities, and transport agencies to develop market-based solutions for urban infrastructure challenges.
  • Provide expertise in affordable housing policies, climate-resilient infrastructure, and urban sustainability frameworks.
  • Conduct policy impact assessments and economic modeling to evaluate infrastructure financing strategies.
Research and Publications
  • Conduct cutting-edge research on sustainable urban growth, transit-oriented development, smart infrastructure, and municipal finance.
  • Publish in top-tier peer-reviewed journals (e.g., Journal of Urban Economics, Cities, Public Administration Review, Journal of Infrastructure Policy and Development).
  • Lead interdisciplinary research collaborations with urban planners, environmental economists, engineers, and policymakers.
  • Secure external research grants from institutions such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), United Nations-Habitat, and national urban development agencies.
  • Present research findings at international urban policy forums, academic conferences, and government roundtables.
Academic Leadership & Institutional Development
  • Serve on PIDE committees, and strategic academic planning teams.
  • Develop and lead urban policy research centers and smart city innovation labs within the university.
  • Organize conferences, public policy dialogues, and workshops on infrastructure governance and urban planning.
  • Foster partnerships with city governments, urban think tanks, and development agencies.
  • Mentor junior faculty and contribute to faculty development initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Ph.D. in Economics, Public Policy, Urban Planning, Infrastructure Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum 11 years post-PhD/relevant terminal qualification experience or at least 7 years post-PhD experience with 12 years of total professional experience, including teaching/research at a recognized university, research institute, or international organization.
  • At least 15 research publications (with 5 publications in the past 5 years) in HEC-recognized refereed high-impact journals.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and student mentoring at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Experience in policy consulting, government advisory roles, or policy implementation.
  • Strong background in quantitative and qualitative policy analysis methods.
Age: Maximum 55 Years
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior tenured faculty experience at a leading university.
  • Experience in policy consulting, infrastructure development projects, or urban governance reforms.
  • Strong professional network with government agencies, UN bodies, and urban policy research institutions.
  • Proficiency in economic modeling tools (e.g., STATA, R, MATLAB, GIS mapping, infrastructure finance models).
  • Experience in public-private partnerships (PPPs), smart city initiatives, and climate-resilient urban planning.
