Ph.D. Workshop and Research Methods for MS and PhD Scholars Learning

Senior Ph.D. students mentor and lead in research our junior Ph.D. scholars and M.Phil. scholars. Ph.D. students will practically give statistical skills (excel, reference citation, how to find relevant literature, presentation preparation (Full Lab work). Further, different important estimation methods regarding all types of data i.e., Cross-sectional, Time series, and Panel data. This workshop is on estimation methods using software Stata, R, Smart PLS, MATLAB, Excel, Oxmetrics, etc.

  • PIDE in collaboration with the World Bank has launched a course on the topic of Development Economics where the WB Seniors team had delivered eight lectures over a span of three months. Thirty students of PIDE participated in this course in person while several others participated using online platform.
  • PIDE always encourages book reading because today a reader, tomorrow a Leader. 3rd Inter-Dept. Book Review Competition was held on January 6, 2022 at the PIDE. Students are delivered their reviews with the help of PowerPoint presentations & first three winners were awarded cash prizes & shields.
  • On 30th March 2022, PSE arranged a workshop on “Monetary Policy Framework in Pakistan & Recent Monetary Policy Stance of SBP”. SBP Officials, Dr Farooq Arby & Dr Sajjad zaheer conducted the workshop.
  • Barrister Qasim Ali – Additional Advocate General Punjab, addressing students about economic cost of litigation. Orange Line Project was delayed for 28 months due to litigation issues & that started a trickle down on Economy. Materials got expensive, uncertainty left an impact & vendors kept waiting.

Memorandum of Understandings

PIDE has signed an MOU with Graana.com. In this connection launched a new course on the Real Estate Economics, to bridge the policy gaps and evolve a data-driven real estate sector. The course’s initiation will help bridge the gap between academia and the real estate sector, which will enable to drive the future discourse of the real estate sector with the proper backing of research methods and techniques. Moreover, with the backing of economics, the course will help harness the role of economics in the real estate sector, which will also help determine the allied industries’ potential

Extra Curriculum Activities

YPDC-PIDE is proud to be a part of an event that highlighted Human Rights violations being undergone.

President Dr. Arif Alvi, Chairperson of Parliamentary Special Committee on Kashmir Mr. Shehryar Afridi Khan, and News Analyst Imran Khan addressed the Book Launching Ceremony at Aiwan-i-Sadar. The book, ‘Baang’ written by Dr. Muhammad Qasim Faktu, a political Kashmiri prisoner who had been languishing in an Indian jail for the last twenty-nine years.

PIDE has signed an MOU with Chain Store Association of Pakistan. PIDE & CAP will collaborate on substantive research in retail, chain-stores & other businesses in Pakistan.

  • Ali Moeen PhD Econometrics secure 2nd position in the interdepartmental book review competitions, held regularly at PIDE.
  • Inter-University Debate Competition was held at Allama Iqbal Open University Islamabad on November 2, 2021, where students from 15 other universities were also competing. Ms. Sehrish Naz was representing PIDE in this competition and she secured second position in this competition. She has been awarded cash prize along with certificate and trophy.

Dr. Shujaat Farooq, an economist, holds a PhD in Economics from the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE). Currently he is working as Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Head of Department, Pide School of Economics (PSE). Earlier he served in Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), National University of Science and Technology, World Bank and Ministry of Finance. Dr. Farooq has extensive experience in research and policy work in the diversified disciplines of economics i.e. poverty, education, health, labor and rural economy. He has been involved in various national policy formulations including rebasing of official poverty line, vision 2025 and National Socio Economic Registry upgradation. He is the part of various national and international think-tanks and policy forums. He wrote several papers, published in well-known national and international journals
