PIDE holds reference for Dr Sarfraz Khan

Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) organised a reference for acknowledging Dr Sarfraz Khan Qureshi (late) for his significant contributions to the development agenda in Pakistan, spread over the last five decades here at AR Kemal Hall, PIDE, Islamabad.Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms, Professor Ahsan Iqbal was chief guest of the event. The reference was well participated by family members of Dr Sarfraz K. Qureshi and his colleagues, associates, PIDE staff and other prominent persons from major institutions.Ahsan Iqbal considered the demise of Dr Sarfraz as a national loss. He said that Dr Sarfraz was involved in the development of ‘Pakistan 2010 Programme’ and contributed significantly to the existing ‘Vision 2025’ despite his poor health conditions.Among other speakers included Professor Nawab Haider Naqvi (former Director PIDE and Rector Federal Urdu University Islamabad Campus), Dr. Muhammad Irfan (former joint director, PIDE), Dr Sohail Jehangir Malik (Chief Executive IDS, Islamabad), Dr Ejaz Ghani (former joint director, PIDE), Kalb-e-Abass (Former Senior Research Economist, (PIDE), Afsar Khan (PIDE), Dr Eatzaz Ahmed (former Acting Vice Chancellor, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad), Dr Hina Nazli (IFPRI) and Dr Talat Anwar (CIDA).The speakers elucidate the contributions of Dr Sarfraz in building PIDE as an epic research institute especially when most of the members of PIDE went to Bangladesh in 1971. Devotedness and affection of Dr Sarfraz towards the economics was also highlighted. Dr Sarfraz was termed as the excellent team leader and a dedicated professional.Dr Qureshi was further remembered as Par Excellence a Harvard University graduate and as a person down to earth and very humble.Dr Sarfraz was not a typical boss and was always very caring and affectionate towards the subordinates. Dr Imtiaz (Son of Dr Sarfraz) informed the audience that he always advised that learningshould be for getting knowledge, which is the real education.Other dignitaries who attended the reference included Dr Zeba Sattar (Head of Pop Council), Dr Shehnaz Qazi and Dr Abdul Salam (former Chairman Agriculture Price Commission).In the end Vice Chancellor PIDE presented the Memorial shield to the family of Dr Qureshi and afterwards the family of Dr Qureshi inaugurated the PIDE library which is renamed as Sarfraz K Qureshi memorial library.
