Job Summary

The Assistant Director/Manager (University–Industry Linkages & Technology Transfer) will play a pivotal role in strengthening collaboration between the university and industry to promote research commercialization, innovation, and knowledge transfer. The position is responsible for facilitating partnerships with industrial stakeholders, government agencies, and research organizations, supporting the commercialization of research outputs, and overseeing technology transfer initiatives. The incumbent will contribute to translating academic research into market-oriented solutions while ensuring alignment with the university’s strategic objectives, national innovation priorities, and international best practices.

University–Industry Partnerships and Collaboration

  • Build, manage, and strengthen strategic partnerships between the university and industry to promote collaborative research, innovation, and applied solutions.
  • Establish and maintain effective linkages with industry stakeholders, government departments, regulatory bodies, and research organizations.
  • Facilitate joint research initiatives, consultancy projects, and industry-sponsored programs aligned with university and industry needs.

Technology Transfer and Research Commercialization

  • Facilitate the commercialization of research outcomes, including patents, licensing agreements, spin-offs, and start-up support.
  • Oversee technology transfer projects to ensure effective translation of research findings into practical and market-ready applications.
  • Ensure that technology transfer activities are aligned with university policies, intellectual property regulations, and industry requirements.

Funding, Grants, and Resource Mobilization

  • Identify national and international funding opportunities to support university–industry collaborative projects.
  • Assist faculty members and research teams in securing financial support for applied research, innovation, and commercialization initiatives.
  • Support proposal development, budgeting, and coordination with funding agencies and partners.

Contracts, Agreements, and Compliance

  • Negotiate, draft, and manage contracts, Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), licensing agreements, and collaboration agreements with industry partners.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies, intellectual property frameworks, and relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with legal, finance, and academic units to ensure transparent and efficient agreement management.

Project Monitoring, Reporting, and Performance Tracking

  • Track the progress of university–industry collaboration and technology transfer projects.
  • Prepare periodic reports on project outcomes, commercialization performance, and partnership effectiveness.
  • Maintain databases and records related to partnerships, patents, licenses, and collaborative initiatives.

Institutional Support and Capacity Building

  • Promote a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, and industry engagement within the university.
  • Support awareness sessions, workshops, and training programs on intellectual property rights, technology transfer, and commercialization processes.
  • Contribute to institutional strategies aimed at enhancing the university’s impact on economic development and innovation ecosystems.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Master (16 years) in Business Administration, Technology Management, Engineering, Economics, Innovation Management, Human Resource Management or a related field from HEC-recognised national/International University.
  2. 5 years’ experience in the relevant field.
