Introduction

Since its founding in 1957, PIDE has carried out studies and assisted in the formulation of evidence-based national and subnational policy. Devoted Research Sections existed ten years ago, but after PIDE was granted degree-awarding institute status and experienced the ensuing academic growth, the research sections at PIDE gradually deteriorated. As a result, PIDE’s intended research output and contributions in the ensuing years were constrained.

The PIDE has made a substantial contribution to policy-based research in recent years, although its Research Sections have mostly been disregarded and non-operational. 8 units were notified in 2019, 10 units were notified in 2022, and 13 units were notified in 2023. However, no significant efforts were made to improve the hierarchy, develop section-level research plans, or increase the capacity of sections by hiring skilled workers. In actuality, for the previous five years, the hierarchy was not adhered to. The portions were unable to become completely independent and functional, hence the efforts were ultimately in vain.

Through a number of reforms, PIDE is modernizing its structure in order to broaden its role and duties and guarantee that the institute maintains quality standards in line with contemporary international research think tanks. Individual three-year research plans are being developed in an attempt to guarantee responsibility and productivity.

Being a thought leader that carries out top-notch research is still PIDE’s principal goal, so it is crucial that the workplace places equal emphasis on each of its primary responsibilities. PIDE created specialized research divisions with subject-matter specialists to carry out its duties in an effective and efficient manner.

To strengthen the Institutional capability and turning into a globally recognized policy powerhouse, it is proposed to establish following 08 Research Centers;

  1. Center for Industry, Trade & Digital Economy (CITDE)
  2. Center for Economic Modeling and Data Analytics (CEMDA)
  3. Macro Policy Lab (MPL)
  4. Center for Social and Behavioral Analysis (CSBA)
  5. Center for Governance, Markets & Regulatory Analysis (CGMRA)
  6. Center for Agriculture, Climate Change & Environment (CACCE)
  7. Center for Sustainable Futures (CSF)
  8. Center for Energy, Logistics, and Infrastructure (CELI)
