ICT Services

Currently, PIDE is using ODOO software for its ERP needs. However, under the Higher Education Development in Pakistan (HEDP) project, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan—supported by World Bank funding—has initiated the implementation of Student Lifecycle Systems (SLC) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems using SAP across higher education institutions. PIDE is part of this initiative, and the SAP implementation is currently underway. Once completed, PIDE plans to discontinue the use of ODOO and fully transition to SAP.

The ICT Division is also responsible for data processing of different surveys conducted either by PIDE or with the collaboration of donors like World Bank, ADB, UNDP, UNICEF, IDRC, DFID, etc.

The data entry applications with extensive data entry checks are developed in-house to enter data from the questionnaires of the surveys to the database. The data is checked and verified many times during the entry and cleaning/processing phase. Once the data entry is complete and the data is verified, a complete documentation including codebooks, questionnaires and organization of data files is prepared. The ICT Division staff also helps the researchers in analyzing data using statistical software like SPSS and STATA for statistical analysis, cross tabulation, and graphs for their research reports and papers. Thematic maps are also produced using ArcView GIS software.

The following data sets including two panel data sets are managed in-house by the ICT Division:

  • Pakistan Rural Household Survey (Panel Data)
  • Pakistan Socio-Economic Survey (Panel Data)
  • National Nutrition Survey
  • Poor Communities of Pakistan Survey
  • Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund Survey

A Geographic Information System (GIS) captures, stores, analyzes, manages, and presents data that refers to or is linked to location. GIS applications are tools that allow users to create interactive queries, analyze spatial information, edit data, maps, and present the results of all these operations.

In 2002, the ICT Division developed its capacity for developing Geographical Information System (GIS) applications and processing of spatial data in support of PIDE research programs. The ArcView GIS software is used by the ICT staff to present results of the research produced at PIDE on maps and also to develop other GIS applications.

The ICT Division offers hands-on training of different statistical packages and other software from time to time for students, researchers and other staff of PIDE as well as for the staff of other development agencies and organisations on request basis.
