Charles Schneider

Charles joined the IFC Pakistan team as a Senior Private Sector Development Specialist in 2022.  He is currently leading IFC projects in Pakistan in the areas of Housing Finance and Investment and is developing new Circular Economy and Agribusiness programs. He is also leading IFC’s advisory work in Afghanistan where there are three ongoing projects and is the focal point for the Afghanistan USAID Trust Fund.

Charles joined IFC in 2006 where he has worked on private sector development project in East and South Asia. Charles was the first IFC staff member based in Myanmar when the World Bank Group reestablished its presence in the country in 2012 and was IFC’s Resident Representative in the country. He also led the establishment of IFC’s advisory program in Myanmar developing programs on Investment Policy, Business Regulatory Reform, Trade and Logistics, Agribusiness and Tourism. Charles also developed programs for IFC in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea and Fiji.

Charles has worked and lived in Lao PDR, Cambodia and Myanmar, where he was IFC’s Resident Representative in these countries. Before moving to Pakistan he was based in UAE working closely with IFC’s Pakistan and Afghanistan programs.

Prior to joining IFC, Charles worked as a consultant for private sector firms in Japan (Sanwa Consulting Group) and Indonesia (Research Triangle Institute), and as an independent consultant for the Asian Development Bank, World Bank and USAID on private sector development, small and medium enterprise development, reform of bank management, municipal finance, financial institution risk management, and as a bank advisor. He worked for two years in Washington, D.C. in the U.S. Federal government as a Presidential Management Intern, including as a staff member of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee.
