Tobias Haque, Lead Country Economist, The World Bank Group, Pakistan

Tobias Haque is a development professional and economist with extensive practical experience leading governance and economic reform programs and analytics. He currently serves as the World Bank’s Lead Country Economist for Pakistan, with responsibility for coordinating a large portfolio of economic, governance, and private sector programs. He has worked for the World Bank for more than a decade, spending time in a range of economist roles, based in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Washington DC, Sydney, and the Pacific islands. Tobias has previously worked at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, in private sector economic consulting, and in the New Zealand public service where he began his career at the New Zealand Treasury. He holds a PhD in Public Finance from the Australian National University and postgraduate degrees in finance (SOAS, University of London), political economy (University of Auckland), and development studies (University of Auckland), along with undergraduate degrees in economics (Victoria University of Wellington), sociology, and political science (University of Auckland).
